November 30th, 2016 Reminder of New Tax Due Dates and Extension Periods – by Linda Marie Pearson, CPA, CFE Well over a year ago, on July 31, 2015, public law regarding certain tax filing deadlines was amended. This change affects those tax paying entities filing their tax returns for the year ending December 31, 2016 and thereafter. For C Corporations, you have another month to file the return. However, for companies filing as a partnership, you have less time: the return is due March 15th. The following is a summary of the changes that are effective for tax years ending December 31, 2016 and thereafter. Form Previous Filing Due Date Revised Filing Due Date For the Year Ended December 31, 2015 For the Year Ending December 31, 2016 Form 1065, Partnerships April 15th March 15th Form 1120S, S Corporations March 15th March 15th C Corporations March 15th April 15th Form 1065 Extensions September 15th September 15th Form 1041 Extensions September 15th September 30th Form 5500, under extension October 15th November 15th Also of note: For fiscal year ends: Partnerships & S Corporations tax returns will be due the 15th day of the 3rd month after the end of the tax year. C Corporations tax returns will be due the 15th day of the 4th month after the end of the tax year. Note: For C Corporations with fiscal years that end on June 30, the due date change is deferred until December 31, 2025.
